Meta-analysis of the effects of Bacillus subtilis on broiler growth performance

Abstract: This study used meta-analysis to evaluate the effects of dietary supplementation with Bacillus subtilis on the growth performance of broilers, providing a theoretical basis for the application of Bacillus subtilis in poultry production. Relevant literature on the effects of Bacillus subtilis on broiler growth performance published in databases such as CNKI, Wanfang Data, Web of Science, and PubMed from January 1, 2017 to April 1, 2023 was retrieved and collected. Meta-data analysis, subgroup analysis, and sensitivity analysis were performed using Review Manager 5.4 and Stata 17, and relevant charts were generated. The results showed that adding Bacillus subtilis to the diet significantly improved the average daily gain (ADG) [SMD=2.02, 95%CI(1.49, 2.55), P<0.00001], average daily feed intake (ADFI) [SMD=0.57, 95%CI(0.08, 1.06), P=0.02<0.05], and reduced the feed conversion ratio (F/G) [SMD=-1.40, 95%CI(-2.05, -0.75), P<0.0001]. In conclusion, adding Bacillus subtilis to the diet can improve ADG and ADFI, reduce F/G, and enhance growth performance in broilers.
