Overview of the development of the national feed industry in 2019

In 2019, affected by the decline in pig production capacity and changes in the international trade situation, the national industrial feed output value and output declined, product structure adjustments were accelerated, feed additive products increased steadily, and the operating situation of large-scale enterprises was generally stable.

1. Gross output value of the feed industry

The total output value of the national feed industry was 808.81 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 9.0%; the operating income was 778.00 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 10.5%. Among them, the output value of feed products was 709.77 billion yuan, and the operating income was 685.85 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 9.8% and 11.5% respectively; the output value of feed additive products was 83.93 billion yuan, and the operating income was 76.34 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 12.4% and 13.4% respectively; The output value was 4.78 billion yuan and the operating income was 6.05 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 19.3% and 1.4% respectively; the output value of pet feed products was 10.33 billion yuan and the operating income was 9.76 billion yuan.

2. Total output of industrial feed

The total output of industrial feed in the country was 228.854 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 3.7%. Among them, 210.138 million tons of compound feed, a year-on-year decrease of 3.0%; 12.419 million tons of concentrated feed, a year-on-year decrease of 12.4%; additive premixed feed 5.426 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 10.6%. In terms of varieties, pig feed was 76.632 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 26.6%, of which feed for piglets, sows, and fattening pigs decreased by 39.2%, 24.5%, and 15.9% respectively; egg feed was 31.166 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 9.6%. Feed for chickens and laying hens increased by 27.2% and 1.8% respectively; feed for meat and poultry was 84.648 million tons, an increase of 21.0% year-on-year, of which feed for broiler chickens and ducks increased by 17.9% and 25.2%; feed for ruminants was 11.089 million tons, an increase of 9.0% year-on-year, of which beef cattle , dairy cattle, and mutton sheep feed increased by 32.5%, 0.8%, and 7.8% respectively; pet feed output was 871,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 10.8%; aquatic feed was 22.029 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 0.3%; other feeds were 2.419 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 29.5%. In the total feed output, the proportion of pig feed decreased from 43.9% in the previous year to 33.5%, and the proportion of poultry feed increased from 41.4% in the previous year to 50.6%.

3. Output of Feed Additives

The national output of feed additives was 11.992 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 8.2%. Among them, 11.302 million tons of feed additives were directly prepared, a year-on-year increase of 7.6%; 690,000 tons of mixed feed additives were produced, a year-on-year increase of 20.0%. The output of amino acids, vitamins and mineral elements were 3.3 million tons, 1.27 million tons and 5.9 million tons respectively, a year-on-year increase of 10.5%, 14.7% and 4.1% respectively. The output of enzyme preparations and microbial preparations continued to grow rapidly, with year-on-year growth rates of 16.6% and 19.3% respectively.

4. Intensive operation

There are 621 feed production plants with a scale of more than 100,000 tons nationwide, a decrease of 35 compared with the previous year; the feed output is 106.597 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.7%, accounting for 46.6% of the total national feed output, an increase of 3.3 percentage points over the previous year . There are 7 production plants in the country with an annual output of more than 500,000 tons, one less than the previous year, and the maximum output of a single plant is 1.107 million tons. There are 31 feed enterprise groups with an annual output of more than one million tons, accounting for 50.5% of the total feed production in the country. Among them, 3 enterprise groups have an annual output of more than 10 million tons.

5. Changes in Regional Layout

There are 9 provinces with over 10 million tons of feed production in the country, 2 less than the previous year, and they are Shandong, Guangdong, Guangxi, Liaoning, Jiangsu, Hebei, Hubei, Sichuan, and Hunan in order of production. Among them, the output of Shandong Province reached 37.789 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.9%; the output of Guangdong Province was 29.238 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 8.3%; billion, a year-on-year decrease of 13.1% and 22.6% respectively. There are 12 provinces in the country whose output has increased year-on-year, among which 5 western provinces including Guizhou, Yunnan, Gansu, Ningxia and Xinjiang have increased by more than 20%.

6. Business adjustment

In 2019, the number of pig feed production plants was 5,432, a decrease of 238 from the previous year; the number of poultry feed production plants was 4,848, an increase of 313 from the previous year; ruminant and pet feed production plants also increased by 68 and 38 respectively. The total volume of bulk feed in the country was 44.143 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.4%; it accounted for 19.3% of the total feed output, an increase of 1.7 percentage points over the previous year.
